Training
Start where you are
It all begins with the basics of plotting, rules, and general navigation. This is the foundation for all licenses, and it is in our OUPV course. We have other courses to build upon the basic training pending approval from the Coast Guard at present. These courses include 100 Ton Master, 200 Ton Master, and Apprentice Mate Steersman.
Who we are
We came off the water, not out of a classroom
Mississippi Maritime was built by people who ran tows and stood watches before they taught anyone else how to. Our instructors have pushed and pulled barges through the same bends, bridges, and waterways you will. That is why our classes spend less time on theory and more time on what actually gets asked of you at two in the morning in fog.
We keep classes small, we test on site, and we handle the paperwork trail the National Maritime Center expects — so the credential you came for does not stall out on a filing error.

Note on placement services
Be advised the school and placement services are two completely separate services that we offer.
Students are in NO WAY obligated or required to be involved with or use our placement services.
If a student would like to request career placement services, that would be discussed with office staff at the time of the request.

Looking for work
Tell us what you hold, what routes you will run, and how long a hitch you want. We put you in front of operators hiring for it. Some placements are paid for by the employer; where a fee falls to you, ours are among the lowest in the industry and we tell you up front.
Looking for crew
Deckhands through masters, for a single trip or a full rotation. We verify credentials and sea service before anyone gets your number, so the résumés you see are ones you can actually act on.
