We train mariners for the credentials the Coast Guard requires, and we put licensed mariners on boats that need them. Both halves of the business answer to the same people.
Origin
Why we started
Mississippi Maritime Training and Services, LLC (MMTS) was started by a Merchant Mariner family. Our Manager, with years of instructing experience as well as being an active master today, realized that there was a need for access to training services and licensing assistance that works in favor of the actual hitch schedules of the industry.
So we sought and acquired United States Coast Guard approval for our school. Our goal, our mission, is to create a learning environment that accommodates today’s mariner. Our class sizes will never be so large that the instructor doesn’t know your name.
Method
How we teach
Every instructor has held the Credential and has actually done what we’re teaching. This emphasizes practical application of what can sometimes seem to be very technical information. Our classroom method includes open conversation and student feedback on the various topics being presented. It is very important to make sure the information being presented is understood.
While we are allowed by the Coast Guard to have up to 22 students per class, class sizes will normally average 12 to 16 people. Testing is done at the facility when the class is concluded. Completion certificates are issued in compliance with USCG/National Maritime Center procedures. We maintain your student file for the duration of your maritime career. This means that as you increase your scope of license or area of operation and need additional certification, we’re already standing by to help you get it done.

Locations
Where we teach
Moss Point is the main training center and where most courses run. Satellite locations will be determined as requested, and we run private sessions at customer facilities anywhere on the coast.
If you are trying to get a whole watch through the same course, a session at your own dock is usually cheaper than sending people to us one at a time.
